About Temple

Mahanandi is a village located east of the Nallamala Hills near Nandyal, Kurnool District, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is surrounded by forests. Within 15 km of Mahanandi, there are nine Nandi shrines known as Nava nandulu. Mahanandi is one of the Nava Nandis.

In order to find out what is happening to the milk of this cow, he followed the cow to forest and hide himself in a thick bush. The cow as usual reached an ant-hill grazed around for a while and began to empty its milk. A young lad was sucking the milk.

The cowherd who was astonished at this sight.conveyed the news to the King. The King was amazed and decided to ascertain the fact. The next day, he followed the cow-herd and hide himself in the thick bush. As usual the cow began to give her milk on the ant-hill. The young lad began to drink the milk, when the King was over enjoyed at the sight, God disappeared immediately and the cow in its hurry trampled the ant-hill, The hoops of the cow are deeply marked on the ant hill. Lord Siva appeared in the dream of the King and told the him to worship him at that place. The King constructed a temple.

Rudra Gundam

One of the remarkable features of the Mahanadishwara temple is the crystal clear water, which flows through out the year from the perennial springs. It is flushed out continuously from the Pushikarani through two exits. The Pushkarani is constructed to maintain Sft of flowing water inside it, which facilitates a secured holy both, after which pilgrims can pay their obeisance to the Almighty. It is believed that by taking holy bath in this 'Pushkarani' all the sins of pilgrims are gone.

Brahma Gundam

Travelers and devotees are not allowed to bathe in the opposite direction of the North Air Tower. So that the devotees will be able to have baths in this pand. If the development is to attract the attention of the devotees, the devotees will have a strong belief in the Brahma Ganga as a holy offering.

Another route, via Giddalur road you need to take left diversion at Boyalakuntla cross and it will be around 24 KM distance from the Nandyal.
