Places To Visit

Prakasam Barrage

The Prakasam Barrage extends across the width of the Krishna River, linking the districts o f Krishna and Guntur. The construction started in the year 1852 and was completed three years later in 1855. The bridge was built later on and named after Sri Tanguturi Prakasam, the first Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The dam irrigates over 1.2 Million acres of land, and is the first major irrigation project of South India. Besides irrigating vast tracts of farm land, the dam provides a spectacular view of the lake and has become a major tourist attr action of Vijayawada.

Undavalli Caves

The Undavalli Caves, a monolithic example of Indian rock-cut architecture and one of the fi nest testimonials to ancient vishwakarma sthapathis, are located in the village of Undavall I. In Tadepalle Mandal in the Guntur District, and near the southern bank of the Krishna Ri ver in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. The caves are located 6 km south west from Vija yawada, 22 km north east of Guntur City.The most striking feature of the cave is the 5 meter long statue of Buddha. Another prominent attraction of the cave is Vishnu, a sculpture of Sri Vishnu who is made with a single granite stone.

Kondapalli Fort

The Kondapalli Fort is located to the west of Kondapalli in the Krishna District, near Vijaya wada. In the 14th century, Prolaya Verna Reddy of Kondavid built this fort as a recreational and business centre. This fort has three successive entry gates, out of which the main entr ance gate is called the Dargha Darwaja.

Made out of a single block of granite, this main entrance gate is 3.7 m wide and 4.6 m hig h.Another entrance gate of the fort is the Golconda Darwaza, which serves as a gateway to the Jaggaiahpet Village. The major attraction of the fort is the Tanisha Mahal or Palace, whi ch is located on a crest between two hills

Bhavani Island

Spread over an area of 133 acres, Bhavani Island is a river island that offers a wonderful e scape from the hustle and bustle of city life. It is a place to rest, relax and enjoy oneself wi th its mangroves, well-manicured gardens, pristine woodlands, rolling meadows and shim mering water bodies.

Bhavani Island is a popular picnic spot, where children can run around carefree while adult s can enjoy the energising and refreshing ambience. Situated in Krishna River, the island is quite close to Prakasam Barrage. There are great boating facilities, which allow visitors to explore the river. The swimming pools on the island are well-maintained and clean. Visitor s, who do not want to spend time in the pools, can opt for other water sports.
